PRODUCT DEVELOPER (OPERATIONS FOCUSED), COSMETIC SOURCING

Orchard Private Labelling is looking for an operations minded Product Developer for our Cosmetic Sourcing team!

You are detail oriented, organized person with a background in consumer packaged goods/personal care with a strong understanding of how to manage timelines and see a project through from start to finish. You are always the first to know about cosmetic trends, product launches, amazing new formulas and innovative components. You are a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment that requires constant collaboration and clear communication. You look forward to continuing to grow and learn on the job and you love to share your knowledge and experience with others. Never one to say “that’s not my job,” you are happy to roll up your sleeves and help out when needed.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop cosmetic and skincare items that meet the needs and requirements of Orchard and our customers
  • Source and vet vendors compatible with production and regulatory requirements
  • Qualify vendors through specific questionnaire to mitigate risk
  • Request samples and compare for quality and performance
  • Complete product specifications
  • Negotiate price, quality, delivery and payment terms
  • Follow up with vendors in terms of price, packing, fact sheets and regulatory paperwork
  • Present landed cost sheet to the team for quoting
  • Communicate vendor issues and concerns to other departments within the company
  • Actively seek out the latest cosmetic trends and beauty innovations
  • Maintain backup correspondence of communication during development process

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in cosmetics/personal care/manufacturing/consumer packaged goods required.
  • 1+ year experience in product development/sourcing/buying an asset.
  • Strong understanding of smartsheet and excel an asset.
  • College or University degree an asset.
  • Proven organization, delegation and timeline abilities.
  • Highly motivated, passionate and results oriented, flexible and creative problem solver.
  • Solid communication and presentation skills.

Product Developer, Bag Division

• Receive and act on requests from Account Executive or PM to develop bags based on concepts or ideas
• Setting up RFQ’s for all cut & sew items and forwarding them along to our approved partners overseas based on clients’ requests
• Ensuring we are receiving responses in a timely manner and samples are turned around quickly from our vendor partners
• Daily correspondence with manufacturers
• Ensuring all details have been captured in our requests and the samples arrive correct against the original request – taking into account sizing, color, fabric accuracy before passing over to Sales Teams
• Responsible for preparing costings for all items which would need to be handed over to the team
• Negotiate pricing and delivery timing
• Building Critical Paths for all projects 
• Provide continual project updates to the given team(s) on a daily basis
• Maintaining a project tracker (in a spreadsheet) of all current items with supplier feedback which is shared with the team on a weekly basis
• Style Specifications: Create & update style specifications for all items that become an order
• Complete project handover to Buyer
• Maintain and support supplier relations
• Maintain fabric swatch files


Qualifications:

• Attention to detail
• Strong communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Word
• Intermediate knowledge of Illustrator & Photoshop
• Bag/textile construction and material knowledge

Buyer

• Key contact person whom acts as a liaison between our Marketing/Sales department and our vendors
• Ensure that all details of a project are followed through from point of order to the specified customer delivery
• Ensure Supplier confirmation of Purchase Order
• Contact with vendors via email & telephone when required
• Follow up with supplier on all P.O. details – daily correspondence
• Open Order Report update & maintenance
• Filing and maintaining information in each project docket
• Attend weekly critical path meetings with QA representatives & Project Managers
• Obtain pre-production & production samples from Vendor – label all samples when received
• Ensure all samples are verified by QA and given to Marketing / Sales dept for client approval
• Advise Vendor regarding sample approval or changes
• Coordinate inspection or testing with QA department
• Ensure factory submission of whatever testing is required whether samples or masters for ship/vibration etc
• Monitor costs, pursue discounts when required
• Adjust costings, specifications, carton markings to reflect any changes to orders
• Submit Letters of Authorization to Vendor
• Initiate claims to vendors when necessary
• Verify carton markings with Project Manager & Vendor
• Follow up with QA for inspections, testing etc.
• Production Release shipments that have passed inspections or that have shipped.
• Create Receiving Reports for product coming to Orchard
• Create Customer version documents for direct shipments to client
• Coordinate shipments with Traffic & Freight Forwarders
• Ensure receipt of documents for cosmetics – C of A’s etc.
• Follow up with suppliers on completed documents (Commercial Invoice, Packing List, BOL)
• Responsible for initiating supplier payments (L/C, T/T etc..)
• Input to Sourcing on Vendor feedback & performance
• Liaison with Distribution & Production when necessary
• Check Vendor packing list against the qty ordered (when released by SEA or AIR)

Qualifications:
• Purchasing experience or education an asset.
• Consumer packaged goods experience an asset.
• Good communication, problem solving, and follow up skills.
• Ability to work effectively in team settings.

QA/QC Technician

  • Assist with and monitor processes and procedures specific to the structure of Orchard International Inc. which will ensure that the quality of product delivered to customers meets their expectations.
  • Monitor/sign off on specifications sent to suppliers, ensuring the maximum possible technical information is included.-Prepare and provide product specifications for major clients where product is their Private Brand.
  • Communicate with suppliers on all aspects of testing, identify items that need testing, arrange testing and analyze reports.
  • Assist with process of evaluation of samples (pre-production and production) buyers and marketing.
  • Initiate inspection at factories, providing relevant information and criteria to inspectors, analyze reports, communicate with clients, as needed
  • Monitor inspection of all incoming shipments. Advise relevant departments of defects reported and implement solutions.
  • Monitor quality control when assembly projects are being produced. Set quality standards, monitor defect levels , implement repairs as needed.
  • Conduct and coordinate testing of new products, both in-house and at associate laboratory, evaluate results, prepare reports.

Education requirements:

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry or related field of study OR College Diploma and 2 years experience
  • Regulatory and Quality control certificates an asset


Qualifications:

  • Understanding the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act
  • Knowledge of the Consumer Packaging and labelling regulation an asset
  • Good communication, problem solving, and follow up skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in team settings
